The Flower Mound Fire Department has multiple engines on the scene of a gas leak near Timber Creek Road and Kings Drive that was reported before noon Tuesday.
Residents in the area have been notified, and homes closest to the leak have been evacuated as a precaution.
Timber Creek Road is shut down between College Parkway and Lamar Middle School.
Work is underway to repair the gas line and is expected to take eight hours.
Because of the proximity to Lamar Middle School and Marcus High School, FMFD has also notified LISD.
Current wind conditions are helping to dissipate the gas away from the immediate area, but if you smell gas in your home, leave immediately and call 911 and your gas company’s 24-hour emergency line.
