Coram Deo grad finds her inner leader

Nichole Lengyel

Nichole Lengyel believes in serving others.

Camp Blessing, an organization for special needs students and adults, is the biggest part of the reason why, according to the Coram Deo 2019 graduate.

“It is one of the greatest organizations on this planet in my eyes,” Lengyel said. “It is a camp where people like myself can come and serve as a counselor to an individual child or adult with special needs for one week. Over the course of the week, you and your ‘buddy’ do everything together. From getting ready in the morning to going to meals and activities, there isn’t a moment where you aren’t by their side.”

Lengyel, 18, was captain of the drill team and a member of the yearbook staff at Coram Deo Academy, as well as performing in competitive dance outside of school.

The Flower Mound teen said she considers it a privilege to have attended CDA, adding that more than anything else, she loved the camaraderie and support she felt at her Alma Mater.

“I always felt like my friends and teachers were more like my family than anything else,” Lengyel said. “I always had people around me encouraging me and pushing me in my faith. I think that is one of the best parts about attending a smaller school.”

Lengyel is at Texas A&M University where she plans to major in International Studies. She said one of her best qualities these days actually grew out of one of her worst insecurities in high school.

“Growing up– and, especially in my earlier years of high school– I found myself to be a very shy and timid person who wanted to follow, rather than be a leader,” Lengyel said. “Throughout my time in high school, I saw myself battling with wanting to be a leader, but not being bold enough to stand up and take any sort of action. My junior year, about the time I became captain of my drill team, I saw that shyness in me completely drift away.

“I was instilled with so much more confidence than I had ever previously had. I’m glad that I once struggled with how I wanted to present myself, so that I could grow into who I am today.”

Lengyel carried a 3.8 grade point average at Coram Deo Academy and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
