A tractor-trailer was struck by a train in Roanoke on Sunday, and police want this to serve as a reminder for driver to not try to get around railroad arms.

The driver of the tractor-trailer thought the train was stopped, so they tried to go around the railroad arms.

“What they didn’t know was another train was coming the other direction,” the Roanoke Police Department wrote in a social media post. “The train only made contact with the trailer and disconnected it from the truck, allowing the driver to pull forward out of the way.”

Fortunately, no one was injured in this crash, but other similar crashes can have different outcomes.

“Please please please do not disregard the railroad arms, because the train you don’t see coming WILL WIN.”
