The mayor pro tem of Bartonville has submitted his resignation to the town, according to a special Town Council meeting agenda.
The town has called a special meeting for Thursday evening because Mayor Pro Tem Jim Murphy submitted his resignation last week. In his resignation letter, Murphy said that he is resigning because he has accepted a new job at an out-of-state company. He had served on Town Council since 2016.
“I have been blessed representing the residents of Bartonville and have enjoyed having this opportunity to serve my community,” Murphy wrote.
Murphy’s Place 4 Council seat expires in May 2020, so the town will call a special election on May 4 this year to fill the Place 4 vacancy. The deadline to file for election will be March 25.
