Katherine Sells has filed for re-election to Place 4 on the Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees.
Sells, a Lewisville resident, was first elected in 2016 to the board. She has served as secretary of the Board of Trustees since 2017. She said in a statement that she is running again because she wants to help build on the positive work the board has done in her three years.
“Together, LISD’s Board of Trustees has worked with administration, teachers and parents to implement rewarding and effective programs and policies during these past three years,” Sells said. “I believe we have increased security, improved transparency, and significantly expanded opportunities for success for our students. I am excited to see what more we can do together in the years to come.”
One example offered is the recent Public Feedback and Informational Meetings held within LISD to inform the public regarding proposed boundary changes, and which enabled the community to become educated as well as engage directly with trustees and staff. Sells attended all seven of the district’s recent Public Feedback and Informational Meetings, which informed the public about proposed boundary changes.
“It is a priority to me to hear personally from residents and parents who are impacted by LISD’s decisions and plans,” Sells said.
Sells is also proud of the new communication piece designed to annually inform parents of children that ride a bus serving a Hazardous Bus Route.
“I championed this parent communication, because families deserve to understand how LISD assesses student safety and why and when their children will be affected,” Sells said.
In addition to her work on the school board, according to a news release, Sells has an extensive schedule of service to Lewisville ISD:
- Member of the LISD Education Foundation Golf Tournament Committee
- Communities In Schools of North Texas Mentor at Delay Middle School
- Board member, Hebron HS PTSA and Hebron HS Choir Booster Club
- Field Service Representative, Texas PTA
- Presenter, National PTA Convention and Texas PTA Launch
- Grade Level Advisor for the Class of 2020 through the National Charity League – Hebron Chapter.
Prior to her election to LISD Board of Trustee, Sells served as president of the Lewisville Council of PTAs, the governing body of all PTA chapters in the district, following a lengthy record of PTA service and offices held across three LISD campuses. She is a graduate of the Inside LISD Leadership Program, and has served on the LISD Facilities Assessment Team, District Leadership Team, Interview Panel and HBL Mentor at Creek Valley Middle School, according to the news release.
Sells has a bachelor’s degree in business from Texas A&M–Corpus Christi, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Central Missouri, and has studied graduate-level education at St. Edwards University in Austin.
Katherine Sells met her husband Chris at a Bible study at First Baptist Church Carrollton, where they remain members after 30 years and where she serves as a Youth Connect Leader. The Sellses have two children: Sam is a junior at Texas A&M University, and Rachel is in 11th grade at Hebron High School.
Filing for all local elections began Wednesday, and the deadline to file to run is Feb. 15. Election Day is May 4.
