A former Flower Mound Town Council member filed Wednesday to run for the office of mayor.
Steve Dixon announced in a news release Wednesday that he filed for the election. Current Mayor Tom Hayden has met his term limit and cannot run for re-election this year.
Dixon previously sat on council from 2009 to 2011 in Place 1. He took a year off and was elected to Place 4 after unseating Steve Lyda in May 2012. Dixon chose to not seek re-election in 2016. He also served on several boards and commissions between 2004-2009 and is an active member of the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce.
“Flower Mound is a great place to call home and I believe our residents are passionate about keeping our Town a highly-rated and unique community,” Dixon said in a prepared statement. “If elected Mayor, you can expect a courteous and welcoming atmosphere at Town Council meetings with a focus on listening to all viewpoints.”
Former Council member Jean Levenick announced last month that she would run, and according to the Town Secretary’s office, she and Dixon are the only people who have filed in the mayoral election, as of Wednesday afternoon.
The filing period for the town of Flower Mound election began Wednesday and ends at 5 p.m. on Feb. 16. The election for mayor and Council members in Place 2 and 4 will be held May 5.
