David W. Witherspoon, age 87, of Mineola, Texas and former resident and former Mayor of Flower Mound, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015, in Tyler.
He was born June 22, 1928 in Dallas County to Bert Alvin Witherspoon and Fannie Mae McCombs Witherspoon. David married Maude Bradford, who preceded him in death on January 22, 1997. Together they had one son, David Leslie “Spooner.” He then married Mary Anita who preceded him in death on November 13, 2015. David owned and operated White Septic Tank, Inc. and a handful of local businesses.
He is survived by his son, David Leslie Witherspoon and wife, Pat; three grandsons, Michael Wayne Maisano, Quentin David Witherspoon and wife Michelle, and Gavin Bert Witherspoon and wife Jana; step children, Darrell Newsom and Carla Deann Newsom; step-granddaughter, Caitlin Newsom. David was preceded in death by four siblings.
He is remembered by many as a sweet, kind, and gentle man. Working hard was his passion. He enjoyed racecars, fishing, cooking, traveling, motorcycles, and his grandchildren. He never met a stranger and was always caring.
A service to celebrate David’s life will be held 2 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2015, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. Interment will follow at Old Hall Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society.
