An investigation is underway in the Town of Flower Mound to address alleged ethics violations on the part of some or all of the town council.

While the investigation was spurred by specific allegations against councilmen Bryan Webb and Brian Rountree, the council decided to task Town Manager Jimmy Stathatos with securing an outside entity to look into “possible violations of the code of ethics and/or open government laws,” per a council agenda item from a July 20 meeting.

That item was requested by Councilman Brian Rountree.

On Friday, Stathatos said he was only able to confirm that the investigation is, indeed, underway.

At the July 20 meeting, Mayor Tom Hayden, who will investigated along with the council,  explained that the town charter allows Stathatos, with Hayden’s consent, to spend up to $15,000 without town council approval. He asked Stathatos to locate a firm and start the investigation immediately.

“As soon as we get this over with, the better. And the more it hangs over our head, the worse it is going to be,” Hayden said.
