Highland Village Mayor Charlotte Mayor Wilcox at Tuesday night’s council meeting declared May 10-16 as Police Week in Highland Village in conjunction with National Police Week. May 15 is designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day in honor of all fallen officers and their families and the U.S. flag will be flown at half staff.

Council members also passed a resolution authorizing a contract with Pavecon Public Works LP for the construction of the Sellmeyer Lane improvement project. The project will replace the existing asphalt pavement with new concrete pavement and widen the road from 20-feet to 31-feet.

Two sections of the roadway will be improved, the north end of Sellmeyer between the north end of Wichita Estates and Highland Village Road and the area between Foggy Glen and the south side of Wichita Estates.

City Trail will be expanded as well to complete the connection between Murray Park and Highland Village Road.

At the same time the existing water line will be replaced with a TCEQ compliant PVC water line. Pavecon Public Works LP bid $799,118 for the project, which will take approximately six to eight months to complete.

The project is in conjunction with the Wichita Estates developer, Jaramco Investments, L.L.C., for the realignment of the “S” curve on Sellmeyer Lane with the developer providing the right of way and construction of the new segment.

Ceremonial oaths of office were conducted for incoming council members (pictured from left) Mike Lombardo, Mayor Charlotte Wilcox, Fred Busche and Bill Meek. Council member Michelle Schwolert was elected Mayor Pro Tem and council member Bill Meek was elected Deputy Mayor Pro Tem.

Mayor Wilcox read a proclamation declaring May as Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month informing riders and motorists about motorcycle safety issues to reduce motorcycle related risks, injuries and fatalities.
