During a called Special Board Meeting on April 27, the Lewisville ISD (LISD) Board of Trustees unanimously approved naming LISD current Interim Superintendent and Chief Operations Officer Dr. Kevin Rogers as the lone finalist for LISD’s Superintendent to serve the district’s nearly 53,000 students and more than 6,500 staff members.
Rogers has 29 years in education–all of these years with LISD. He has served as teacher, coach, campus and district administrator.
With 99 applicants spanning 30 states, the LISD Board of Trustees worked together to identify the current needs of the district and select the best candidate to move the district forward with a laser focus on learning for all students, including closing the achievement gap.
“Our Board was impressed with the high caliber of talent and expertise of candidates who applied for this position, LISD Board of Trustees President Trisha Sheffield said. “Out of our applicant pool, the Board believes Dr. Rogers is the best candidate to serve LISD. His leadership in bringing forward new ideas, seeking input from all stakeholders to ensure they have a voice in the implementation process and focusing on student achievement for all learners was paramount.”
The LISD Board has been diligent in its desire to create a learning organization that ensures all students achieve high levels of success and has confidence Dr. Rogers is the candidate of choice to continue leading this charge. Rogers has a proven track record of bringing forward new opportunities for all students and teachers, as well as leveraging them to close the achievement gap.
Additionally, the Board recognized Dr. Rogers’ knowledge and support of LISD’s Strategic Design initiative. Strategic Design remained at the forefront of the Board’s decision-making process. Going backward or stopping the progress that has been made was never an option, and his ability to continue moving this forward in partnership, communication, and trust with the Board, students, teachers, parents and the community was an important factor. He is known for building strong support systems during times of change, allowing the district to continue moving forward.
Dr. Rogers’ contract is set to be approved May 18 with his first day as LISD’s Superintendent on May 19. By law, there is a 21-day waiting period before the Board can approve a candidate’s contract.
