Make this Valentine’s Day a special one

v-day_extravaganza_bearWith Valentine’s Day just around the corner, finding that special something for a loved one, a friend, a teacher or another special someone in your life is as simple as stopping by any of these local specialty shops.

Whether selecting a bottle of wine from WineStyles or the Diva-scented Tyler candles from Extravaganza, sumptuous treats from The Flour Shop Bakery or that perfect handbag from Brightside Boutique, there’s plenty from which to choose.

Valetine’s Day is a holiday where a simple but thoughtful gift can say so much – from “Thank you” to “I love you” to “just thinking about you.”

WineStyles

At WineStyles, pre-packaged gift baskets are ready to go for the person in a hurry, says owner Debbie Sardone. For those with a little time to browse, the shop at 6100 Long Prairie Road, Suite 400, is filled with everything from a wide selection of wines to wine glasses, electronic wine openers, wine coasters, themed towels, wine charms, crystal decanters and even cork cages where you can keep the corks to commemorate special occasions.

“I think we have the very best wine accessories in Flower Mound,” Sardone said.

One popular wine, Sexual Chocolate by Slo Down Wines, is actually not chocolate-flavored. “It doesn’t taste like chocolate,” the owner said, adding the big bold red is a favorite among red wine drinkers.

For those who enjoy trying new wines, Sardone has the perfect Valentine’s Day gift idea: “What really makes a romantic gift is the Wine of the Month club.”

Sardone, who also owns Buckets & Bows, suggests picking up something that combines both businesses – a wine basket complete with 12 maid service gift cards to give that special someone a year-long treat.

Extravaganza

Looking for something special for your child’s teacher or a family friend? Extravaganza at 6100 Long Pairie Road, Suite 700, provides a unique selection of gifts for just about anyone. Tyler candles, especially the popular Diva scent, are a steady favorite any time of year, says owner Dana Bondar.  And, it comes in laundry detergent, no less. (If you’re wondering, the Diva scent is a combination of fruits and florals with touches of chocolate and amber mixed in.)

A little heart that comes with a key is a simple and sweet way to share your love. Or, consider a lotion dispenser with a teacher’s initials on it. Specialty notecards are a favorite, but if you want something specific on them, be sure to call soon, Bondar says. For a little sweet for your sweetheart, consider the toffee in a ring box decorated with hearts.

And while you’re shopping, be sure to enter your name for the Valentine’s Day drawing. Someone will be the lucky winner of a giant-sized Teddy Bear.

Brightside Boutique; Brightside Shoe Boutique

From colorful wraps to Vaneli shoes to Brighton handbags and more, you are guaranteed to find the right gift for the young lady in your life at Brightside Boutique and Brightside Shoe Boutique in the Shops at Highland Village (Brightside Boutique, 1400 Shoal Creek, Suite 150; Brightside Shoe Boutique, 4141 Waller Creek, Suite 160).

Or, spend a little time to personalize your gift by selecting the Art & Soul charm bracelets complete with charms for a friend, sister or special someone, says owner Ann Wolf. Brightside carries a full line of jewelry to dazzle someone with delight for Valentine’s Day.

And did we mention handbags? And shoes? Either or both are sure to be a big hit or just pop in and get a gift card and let her be the one to choose.

If you are shopping around the Shops at Highland Village and smell something heavenly, just follow your nose to The Flour Shop Bakery at 1401 Shoal Creek, Suite 150, where Cara Vasquez is sure to be whipping up something sweet and delectable.

An experienced pastry chef, Vasquez opened her own bakery three years ago and has been busy creating everything from ice cream cakes to cake pops to cookies to more than 100 flavors of cupcakes.

A Valentine’s Day treat this year is a Smores cupcake (remember those?) with a clever note that reads, “Every day, I love you Smore.”

Chocolate-covered strawberries are a longtime favorite on Valentine’s Day as are those candies with personalized messages. If you plan ahead, you can order them with your own special message.

Or, if time is short, stop by and you’ll find heart-shaped bowls filled with goodies and wrapped in cellophane ready to go.

With these tips, there’s just no excuse for missing this Valentine’s Day. So make it special for that special someone. Happy Valentine’s Day!
