This week we combined two of our favorite things: a Flower Mound institution and Mexican food! We know how much many of you appreciate these things as well which is why we had our team lunch at the original Cristina’s Mexican Restaurant located on the corner of Shiloh Road and FM 1171.
This is one of our all-time favorite places to head to for Mexican food and we just wanted to make sure that you all know about it too so you can try it out for yourselves!
Cristina’s was first established in 1989 by the Vargas family in an effort to offer home style Mexican cooking (“comida casera”) and a comfortable atmosphere to diners. And ever since then, they’ve been continually working to expand their menu to offer unique twists on classic dishes as well as traditional Tex-Mex favorites like enchiladas, fajitas, tacos, etc. And even after opening multiple locations, they’ve been able to keep that local-restaurant feeling which is what we love the most about this place!
Are you ready to hear what we had?
We obviously had to start out with some table side guacamole to accompany our chips and salsa. The avocados were perfectly fresh and all of the additional ingredients just enhanced the flavor and fresh quality of the guacamole. Combine it with their slightly spicy and chunky salsa and you can’t go wrong!
In true Foodie Friday tradition, we all tried to order a variety of menu items so that we could offer you the best perspective on Cristina’s menu. I ordered the Carne Asada lunch special (grilled thinly pounded steak) but subbed the enchilada with one of their delicious brisket tacos. Traci ordered the #15 off the lunch menu which comes with a brisket taco and enchilada. Kari, in true Tex-Mex style, ordered the Tacos Al Carbon with fajita chicken served with a big helping of guacamole, rice and beans. And our lunch guest of the week ordered the lunch fajitas with beef, which came out sizzling hot and loaded with all kinds of great condiments to go along with it.
And as much as it was obvious that we had to start out with table side guacamole, we definitely could not leave without some of their INCREDIBLE sopapillas and flan. The sopapillas are perfectly fluffy and doughy and are dusted with the perfect mix of cinnamon and sugar. And if you’ve never asked for them served with some chocolate sauce drizzled over them or brought out with some agave nectar, you must do that the next time you go here! It makes them even better than they are by themselves. And the flan is incredible as well with a wonderful caramel flavor to it and a melt-in-your-mouth texture.
The moral of the story is, if you haven’t tried out this Flower Mound institution yet, or you haven’t been a while, you need to get out to Cristina’s as soon as possible! And if you ever have a dinner or event you’re hosting, this location also offers a great private room and they cater as well.
When you go get your Tex-Mex fix on this weekend, be sure to let the management know that Jay Marks of Foodie Friday sent you.
Have a delicious weekend, Foodies!
