Henrik Zetterstrom is extremely musically inclined. A member of the Flower Mound jazz ensemble called Shades of Blue, the Jaguar Chorale and Texas Future Music Educators, Zetterstrom’s ultimate goal in life is to be a music educator in the state of Texas.
The Flower Mound senior said his involvement with the various school ensembles help him in his pursuit of his life’s passion.
“I enjoy being a part of these activities because it has what I have done my whole life,” Zetterstrom said. “It is something that I am used to, and all of my friends that are in these choirs understand me, and I understand them, and it is just one, big 60-person family.”
Zetterstrom also holds down a part-time job, takes flying lessons at Denton Enterprise Airport and attends church regularly.
Zetterstrom said he believes the biggest issue affecting young people today is academic stress.
“I think we’re pressured by all of the people around us, including our teachers, our friends and our families to be someone that it is very hard to be at this age,” Zetterstrom said. “I think we are pressured every day to work very hard and to achieve some very hard goals.”
The Flower Mound senior said he believes there is also a major fallacy about his generation as well.
“I think the biggest misconception about young people is that we don’t care enough,” Zetterstrom said. “I think that when we put our minds to things, we care as much about issues as we do about family and friends and loved ones. I think that if we really put our mind to it and it is something that matters to us, we will achieve our goals.”
Zetterstrom said ultimately, he wants to use all of the positive things he has learned to make himself a better teacher.
“I want to take all of the negative things and throw them out,” Zetterstrom said. “Then I want to take all of the positive things and share them with the people around me so that they can lead better lives than even our generation has.”
Zetterstrom said he plans to attend either Baylor, TCU, UNT or Texas Tech and study music education.
