Argyle athlete also a ‘mathlete’

In addition to being the quarterback for one of the top 4A football programs in the state this year, Cooper Rodgers is also a mathlete for one of the strongest math and science teams in state.

The Argyle senior said that he enjoys being involved at Argyle for a couple of reasons.

“The staff and coaches encourage being involved in many things,” Rodgers said. “They make it pretty easy for us to get involved. I like being busy most of the time and always having something to do. It also helps you connect with other people in school.

“For instance, the quarterback being friends with all of the math team members is not very typical.”

Rodgers is a member of the UIL Academic Math team, the National Honor Society and played baseball his first two years of high school.

In order to keep on task, Rodgers said he has to make sure he prioritizes, but added he does stay on top of things.

“It’s not too hard,” Rodgers said. “Especially, being in harder classes and having to practice until 6:30 or 7 some evenings, it can be kind of hard, but I am able to manage. I have to make time for things, and it’s not too bad.”

The Argyle football team was undefeated and ranked first in their region after nine games, and Rodgers said the best part of going to Argyle for him has revolved around his time on the gridiron.

“I would definitely say it was playing football for my dad [Todd Rodgers],” Rodgers said. “It was great receiving such support from everyone. It could have been a situation where everyone looked at me as the coach’s kid getting to be the quarterback, but everyone has shown me that they understand that it is not that at all.”

Rodgers plans to attend Texas A&M University in fall where he is looking to study civil engineering.

The Argyle senior has a grade point average of 106 and is ranked ninth in his class of 178 students.
