News from Town Hall

Our town of Double Oak is such a wonderful place to live and raise a family. It has the small town charm and closeness of neighbors looking out for one another and offering a helping hand when needed that tends to get lost in bigger cities.

Dining, entertainment and shopping are nearby with more locations coming as towns around us develop. It’s a pleasure to drive around the town and see kids and families outdoors playing and jogging around our community. The citizens of Double Oak are responsible for making our town one of the most desirable, safest and recognized places to live in North Texas.

Fall Clean-up Weekend Nov. 7 – Nov. 9

The Town Council is pleased to provide 30-yard roll-off containers in the Town Hall parking lot over the weekend of Nov. 7 through Nov. 9. These are ONLY for yard waste items — no hazardous household materials will be accepted — and are ONLY for Double Oak citizens’ use.

Some properties have tree limbs which hang too low over the street and hit the tops of school buses and tall vehicles. Please use this weekend to trim those limbs to conform to town ordinances and get rid of green waste brush piles on your property. You can dispose of them in the containers at town hall.

Please ensure all yard waste that you bring to Town Hall goes into the parking lot dumpsters. DO NOT leave anything outside of the dumpsters. When full, orange cones will be placed around the dumpsters and nothing else should be dropped off.

As part of Waste Management service to the Town of Double Oak, residents are entitled to 4 free passes to the landfill each year. These passes are available at Town Hall.

Annual Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department Community Appreciation Dinner

Thanks to Nan Bowen and those who donated and volunteered to make this year’s appreciation dinner a big success. There was a good crowd that stopped by the firehouse to offer their appreciation and to say thanks to the firefighters and medics.

There were lots of delicious food and desserts which brought smiles to the firefighters faces. Please mark this event on your calendar for next year and we look forward to seeing you at the DOVFD firehouse.

Annual DOVFD Fundraising Drive

The DOVFD annual fundraising drive is underway. Many of you have probably received your letters from the DOVFD already. For those who have not yet received a letter and you wish to make your annual donation, please visit the DOVFD website at www.dovfd.org to find contact information.

The DOVFD is on call 24/7 and the members are 100 percent unpaid volunteers. Your annual donation goes to purchase firefighter protective clothing, tools and other life-saving equipment. Please send in your annual donations and thank you.

DOPD National Night Out

Congratulations to the Double Oak Police Department and event organizer Officer Blake Ringberg on a very successful National Night Out.

The event was held at town hall in the JB Wright Park. A large crowd came to meet the officers and their neighbors in town. There were many activities for the kids and good food on the grill.

The Town and the Double Oak Police Department extend our sincere thanks to the local Target store who donated goods and store volunteers to help with the event. As well, thank you to Denton County Sheriff William Travis and his staff for their presence and equipment they brought to the event as well as Precinct 4 Constable Tim Burch and his staff.

Waste Management (WM)

Waste Management has identified discrepancies in invoices of those claiming the Senior Citizen discount.  WM billing department incorrectly coded regulatory and administrative fees to these accounts.  WM has reviewed the estimated 100 Senior Citizen accounts and has credited those accounts including applicable taxes.

These corrections will be reflected on the next quarterly billing. An insert should be included with the Senior Citizen’s next invoice.  For more information, please contact Waste Management at 972-315-5400.

Neighborhood Notes

Double Oak residents Mark and Peggy Rose, owners of Living Earth, will allow residents of Double Oak to dispose of their leaves at no charge.  Living Earth is located on FM 407 and will have a bin set up in the yard for leaf drop-off.

All leaves must be dumped out of bags or trash cans by the person who brings them.  This is just for leaves – no trash or any other items will be allowed. The town thanks Mark and Peggy for this community service.

Welcome to Double Oak Rapid-Med

The Town of Double Oak is pleased to welcome Dr. John Gomez and his Rapid-Med facility now under construction at the corner of Chinn Chapel and FM 407.  We look forward to his grand opening in the first quarter of 2015.

Veterans Day

Veterans Day is Tuesday, Nov. 11, and on behalf of the Town of Double Oak, we extend our thanks and our prayers to those who are serving and have served their country. Take a moment on Veterans Day to remember these Great Americans.  God Bless…
