CCA’s Food Pantry launches nutrition initiative with grand re-opening

Christian Community Action recently hosted a re-opening ceremony for a newly-remodeled food pantry on Mill Street in Lewisville.

As part of CCA’s Food Pantry Restoration & Nutrition Initiative, the organization purchased new freezers, refrigerators and produce displays to offer a wider selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat. The facility also received a face-lift with new paint, check-out stations, floors and other repairs, according to a news release.

“The pantry looks great and the volunteers and (clients) love it,” Trent Smith, CCA’s Food Distribution Manager, said in a news release. “The word for the day was ‘WOW!’ I must have heard that word a hundred times that day.”

CCA’s Food Pantry provides food and personal hygiene products to more than 500 local families each week, and logs more than 27,000 family visits annually. For every dollar donated, CCA can buy $9 worth of food through partnership with the North Texas Food Bank.A $25 donation can feed a family for a month, covering about 40 percent of the family’s food needs.

To schedule a food drive to benefit CCA’s Food Pantry, call Sheri Snyder, development/grants officer, at 972-219-4329 or send an email to [email protected].
