Project Safe “BOO” aims to keep kids safe

Denton County Sheriff’s Office deputies will increase their patrols across Denton County on Halloween.

Attention will be focused on neighborhoods such as Lantana, Sheriff Will Travis said, adding he is continuing his initiative to keep children safe on Halloween this year.

“Our goal is to keep our children safe, and we’ve seen a reduction in the Halloween mischief as a result of the increased patrols,” Travis said in a news release.

In addition to the increased patrols, deputies also knock on the doors of registered sex offenders with the Denton County Sheriff’s Office to ensure children remain safe as they enjoy trick-or-treating activities.

Travis also indicated in a news release that he wanted to make sure sex offenders are not a threat.

He added that registered sex offenders are listed by zip code on the county website for parents to check and make sure children do not go to the wrong houses.
