Have you heard the exciting news? In October, the Town Council approved a measure that will assist Rainier Medical Investments in developing the Town’s first hotel, to be located in the River Walk development.
In partnership with DePalma Hotels & Resorts, Rainier plans to develop an upscale, select-service hotel, which will include approximately 140 guest rooms and suites in addition to 6,000 square-feet of meeting space.
It will also feature a restaurant and bar, pool, exercise room, an outdoor seating area, and multiple fire pits. No longer will friends and family need to travel to neighboring cities for an overnight stay and our growing restaurant and retailer community will benefit from the extra visitors.
As everyone can agree, Flower Mound has been in need of this amenity for many years and it is a joy to see progress on this important project. We anticipate announcing which hotel brand will be coming to Flower Mound next month; and if all goes according to plans, we could celebrate its opening in spring 2016.
In October, we celebrated the grand opening of Luna Grill and Mellow Mushroom restaurants, which were both overwhelmingly successful. So successful that more parking is planned for behind the two new buildings to help support customer demand. Updates on this project will be posted on the Town’s website, when available.
Flower Mound continues to show strong support for all our great restaurants, a major plus when the Town continues its restaurant recruiting efforts to add even more options for our residents.
This month, the Town will celebrate Veterans Day in two special ways. We will start with the annual Veterans Day ceremony on November 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Flower Mound High School, 3411 Peters Colony.
A family picnic will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. that will include free hot dogs provided by the Summit Club along with cake and lemonade. During that event, there will be a Veterans Review, where approximately 200 local Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and JROTC units parade before the Veterans in uniform.
Then, on Veterans Day, November 11, several Flower Mound residents will participate in the inaugural Flower Mound Veterans Day Relay. From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., participants will commemorate our nation’s veterans and their service by carrying the American flag in a relay run comprised of three-mile segments throughout Town.
The course will start and end in the Lakeside DFW development, followed by a post-race celebration from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Normandy Homes’ model home, 609 Sandy Lane in Flower Mound. I encourage everyone to come out and cheer for our relay runners along the route. For a map of the route, please visit http://www.flower-mound.com/DocumentCenter/View/8275.
The Town will also tweet relay updates throughout the day at https://twitter.com/flower_mound.
We have some big changes on the way for our annual Christmas Parade. In honor of its 25th anniversary, the Town will hold a nighttime parade with lighted floats parading down Spinks Road to Gerault Park, where a tree lighting ceremony will take place.
The ceremony will include choir performances, pictures with Santa, carriage rides, a snow hill, a petting zoo, vendors, kids’ activities, and much more. Food trucks will also be on site.
