FM teen takes gold in national rock climbing competition

Rocking climbing since she first tried it at the Flower Mound YMCA, Lauren Bair is now a champion rock climber, winning the speed climbing gold medal and capturing the silver gold medal the Female “C” Division Sport Climbing at the USA Nationals in Atlanta, Ga.

Lauren, daughter of Jason and Denise Bair of Flower Mound, has been invited to the PANAM Climbing Competition in Mexico City in November.

Lauren competed in the Fire Wheel Invitational in Boston, Mass., in May; the Texas regional competition in Grapevine and the Midwest Divisional in Houston. As a member of Team Texas, she was invited to compete at the national level for the fourth time. Team Texas has climbers from Carrollton, Dallas and Grapevine Summit Rock Climbing Clubs, which have won 11 national titles.

Her younger sister has also taken up the sport. The Liberty Elementary School student, Madison, competed in the Female “D” Division at the nationals.
