At their June 24 meeting, Highland Village City Council began discussion of the FY 2014-2015 budget with the Capital Improvement Program which is a five-year outlook of the capital budget. This provides the framework for consideration of the current year’s budget and resulting tax rate.
The majority of the capital related items will be from the Highland Village Community Development Corporation with trail construction and a soccer complex. These projects are funded by 4B sales tax revenues.
The primary emphasis of the five-year outlook is to control ongoing operating costs in a context of sustainability within the anticipated revenue base. Budget discussions will continue throughout the summer with final read scheduled for September.
Council awarded the bid to J.C. Commercial for the construction of Doubletree Ranch Park in the amount of $8,504,758.
An historical landmark within the city, Doubletree Ranch Park was the homestead of Highland Village’s first Mayor and evolved into a community gathering place for banquets and events.
The city purchased the property in 2007 with the intent to preserve not only the history, but the open beauty of this community gathering location.
The park will feature soccer fields, a pavilion with a great lawn, fishing area and natural conservation area with a lazy river.
Primarily funded by 4B sales tax revenues, construction is scheduled to begin in July with a projected completion date of July 2015.
Council approved the site plan for Denton Area Teachers Credit Union (DATCU) to be located at 1900 Briarhill Boulevard in Celebrations Village. The bank will be approximately 6730 sq. ft. on the pad site at the southeast corner of Briarhill Boulevard and FM 407.
During the Mayor’s announcements, Mayor Wilcox presented GIS Applications and Development Manager Sunny Lindsey with the Cityworks Exemplary User Award. The award, given to only five agencies in North America, recognizes those employing innovative and intelligent applications of Cityworks which further empowers Geographical Information Systems (GIS) within their communities.
“Sunny has developed programs and apps utilized by many of our departments, including our public works crews in their effort to combat mosquito breeding grounds, the parks and recreation work order functions and the management of our water and wastewater infrastructure. This award validates the cutting-edge use of technology by our city employees,” said Mayor Charlotte Wilcox.
The HVTV Update informed residents of the HVPD Vacation Watch program, Phase 1 water conservation, Parks and Recreation summer education classes and Fire Chief John Glover shared tips to stay safe around the pool this summer.
