Argyle, Flower Mound heading to state

The Argyle baseball team earned their first trip to the state tournament in school history with a Game 2 win Friday night over Paris North Lamar, 4-1.

Drew Gooch pitched a five-hitter in the game, as the Eagles improved to 31-9-1 on the season.

The Class 3A Region II champs will face the Sinton Pirates (25-9-2) in the state semifinals at 1 p.m. Wednesday at UT’s Disch-Falk Field.

The winner advances to the State Championship game to play the winner of the College Station vs. Lubbock Copper on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Jags Sweep Marcus

In the baseball version of the Mound Showdown, Flower Mound punched their ticket to state with a Game 2 win over crosstown rival Marcus on Saturday at McKinney Boyd High School.

Flower Mound took control in the top of the 7th inning, putting two runs on the board after leading 2-1. Marcus could not answer and the final was 4-1.

B.J. Myers earned the victory for the Jaguars, while Connor Wanhanen tripled in the game for Flower Mound.

The Jags blanked Marcus 11-0 Friday night in Game 1 of the best-of-three 5A Region I finals.

Marcus finished up the regular season with an overall record of 32-10.

Flower Mound (32-11) will face Pearland (37-5) this coming week in Round Rock.
