Town approves incentives to lure restaurant

La Madeleine will open a Flower Mound location this fall following the town council’s unanimous vote Monday night to approve a 380 Incentive Agreement providing $28,500 in impact and building permit fee waivers to the restaurant.

The Dallas-based restaurant chain is anticipating opening a 4,500-square foot location this November in the River Walk Market, at the northeast corner of FM 1171 and FM 2499, featuring a variety of its popular French countryside entrees and bakery items.

“This project has been in the works for a long time and we are thrilled La Madeleine will open its doors in Flower Mound,” said Flower Mound Economic Development Director Mark Wood. “It is very rewarding to see one of our community’s top picks become a reality.”

La Madeleine has consistently ranked as a top choice in the last three Flower Mound Retail and Restaurant surveys. It was chosen as No. 2 in 2003, No. 7 in 2007, and No. 4 in the most recent 2011 survey.

Chapter 380 of the Local Government Code authorizes municipalities to offer incentives designed to promote economic development such as commercial and retail projects.

Flower Mound officials estimate that the restaurant’s net benefit to the town with the incentives in place will be $800,000 over a 20-year period. La Madeleine must remain open for four-years to retain the incentives.

“Welcome to Flower Mound, La Madeleine,” said Mayor Tom Hayden. “We look forward to announcing many additional restaurants, retailers, and other businesses coming to Flower Mound in the near future, which will bring new job opportunities.”
