The Copper Canyon Town Council at their August meeting passed an ordinance prohibiting bicycles on roads under construction and streets used as construction detour routes.
“With all the arterial town roads about to be under various stages of construction or used as alternative detour routes, the council concluded that cyclists were increasing concerns for safety – both for the cyclists and the vehicle driving public,” said Copper Canyon Mayor Sue Tejml.
The cyclist ban will take effect as soon as warning signs can be erected at the entrance of all town roads that are affected, said Tejml.
Information about the roads where cyclists are restricted will also be posted on the town’s website at www.coppercanyon-tx.org.
