Local celebrities, chefs to be Champions for Children

Flower Mound’s Circle R Ranch will play host to a gala event this Saturday night as the Children’s Advocacy Center of Denton County holds its first annual “Champions for Children”.

The CACDC’s new fundraising effort features a host of celebrities along with fine foods from a variety of local chefs.   Guests will enjoy dinner and dancing along with a live and silent auction.

At this point you may be wondering what all the fuss is about?  The CACDC is an organization that provides justice and healing for victims of child abuse.  The non-profit agency is a public-private venture that seeks to reduce the trauma of child abuse for victims in Denton County by utilizing a team approach to investigate, prosecute, and treat child abuse cases.  The CACDC brings together law enforcement, Child Protective Services, prosecutors, therapists, and volunteers under one roof.

The Champions for Children Gala will feature signature dishes specially prepared by Morris Salerno, owner of The Grotto Steakhouse, Sharon Van Meter of Milestone Culinary Arts Center, Greg Tierney of Tierney’s Café and Tavern, Tom Welther of the Anatole Hotel, along with other culinary experts from the World Master Chef Society and area restaurants.

Celebrity sightings will begin with emcee George Dunham from Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket, along with sports celebrities including former Dallas Cowboys Tony Casillas, Dat Nguyen, and Walt Garrison, and former Texas Rangers Pete Incaviglia, and Jose Guzman.  UNT head football coach Todd Dodge will be in attendance in addition to NBA star Oliver Miller, and WFAA TV sports anchor Dale Hanson, among others.

The event will also include a live and silent auction featuring prizes including a trip to the California wine country and stay at Fisherman’s Wharf, a 1940s bi-plane ride, a 3 hour Lake Grapevine cruise for 200, sport suite packages, memorabilia, and much more.

The gala will be held Saturday, February 20, at the recently renovated Circle R Ranch in Flower Mound.  Festivities are set to begin at 7pm with an autograph and tasting stroll.  Tickets are $100 or $125 at the door, though various sponsor levels are still available which offer an expanded experience.  For a full rundown of event information, visit www.cacdcchampions.com.
