School Rezoning Meeting Scheduled

Lewisville Independent School District officials will hold a public hearing in early February to discuss proposals to relieve overcrowding at Briarhill Middle School in Highland Village.

Trustees are weighing two options that involve moving over 100 Briarhill students in Copper Canyon and western Highland Village to Downing Middle School for the 2010/2011 school year.

Seventh grade students and their siblings presently at Briarhill are expected to be allowed to remain at the school.

Once the new zones are approved, a letter will be sent to students affected by the boundary changes along with a school choice form for those who are allowed to stay at the current campus.

Officials said that although a public hearing is not legally required, LISD officials want to ensure all community concerns are heard before the boundaries are adopted.

The Board of Trustees will hold the rezoning hearing on February 2 at Briarhill Middle School starting at 6:30 p.m.

Rezoning hearings for five other LISD campuses are also scheduled in the coming weeks. For more information, visit www.lisd.net/communications/zone.html.
